Clumio delivers cloud-based data protection and backup services tailored to enterprise needs. They offer a platform that provides backup (BaaS) service for various cloud environments.
Clumio aims to simplify data protection by offering a unified backup solution spanning on-premises datacenters and cloud infrastructure. In addition to backup, it leverages cloud-native technologies to provide recovery and compliance features.
I worked with Clumio on a range of projects over the years, including two updates on their visual identity designs.
The company was acquired by Commvault in 2024.
After securing a new round of funding in 2021, Clumio sought to refresh its brand to align with their new growth demands. Rather than overhauling the entire identity, the Marketing team wanted to retool the existing brand. I concentrated on strengthening the weaker elements of their logo design and refining their generic visual language, all while preserving key brand identifiers: the signature blue color scheme and the recognizable form of the logo.
To set Clumio apart from its competitors, I designed a blue light wave as the brand's primary visual element. This abstract form symbolized the data-driven world Clumio operates in, reinforcing their position in the cloud-based data protection industry.
AWS re:Invent is an annual conference for cloud computing professionals, and a key event for exploring the latest AWS innovations and trends. For this conference, Clumio's Marketing team embraced a theme focused on re-emerging from the COVID pandemic, with the slogan “Get Backup and Running,” cleverly referencing both their core data backup service and the broader idea of global recovery. From a design perspective, the brief called for a Tron-inspired visual identity that aligned with Clumio's newly refreshed brand.
By the event's conclusion, the sales team had secured several million dollars in leads and tripled their potential enterprise-scale clients.
Following another successful round of funding, Clumio sought to update their website design to fuel continued growth. The design brief called for a trendy glassmorphic aesthetic. Inspired by Clumio’s innovative air gap data protection, I developed a design system featuring concentric circles and extended the brand’s gradient color scheme with a vibrant orange, reflecting their integration within the AWS ecosystem—their primary environment for backup and data protection.
Not long after the redesign, Clumio was acquired by Commvault.
